Georgie and Lennie
The Birthday Party
It was Georgie’s third birthday, he tried really hard to be good and not do anything
to upset Mummy. The terrible two’s were over she’d said to him, you’re a big boy now.
Mummy had arranged a lovely party for him. All his friends were coming.
Mummy had been busy all morning making cakes and jellies, butties cut into animal
shapes. Georgie tried to help Mummy, but after the jelly ended up in a heap on the
kitchen floor,Mummy patiently told Georgie to go and play outside.
Georgie was a very shy, quiet little boy, he had yellow hair and bright blue eyes
and a really cute smile, people couldn’t believe it when Mummy told them the things
he’d been up to. It wasn’t Georgie’s fault though, it was Lennie who put him up to
these naughty things,it was never Georgie’s idea, always Lennie’s. Of course though
when Georgie tried to blame Lennie, Mummy would firstly have that worried look on
her face, but then she’d get cross with Georgie and tell him to stop making up
stories,it was wrong to tell fibs she’d say, much better to tell the truth,
this way Mummy would forgive Georgie and everything would be okay until the next
time. The thing was though, as Georgie had told Mummy over and over again,
he was telling the truth and it was Lennie the little Leprechaun who lived under
Georgie’s bed and followed Georgie everywhere, who had told Georgie to do those
naughty things.
Mummy had even resorted to taking Georgie to see the Doctor as she was worried
something was wrong with Georgie. Georgie just sat quietly while Mummy and the
Doctor talked. Georgie came out with a huge lollypop. He couldn’t understand
though why the Doctor had just ignored Lennie. Georgie didn’t think that was
nice at all and that was why when the Doctor stood up and went to walk forward
to shake Mummy’s hand, it was no surprise to Georgie and Lennie when the
Doctor fell flat on his face. Lennie and Georgie couldn’t control themselves.
Mummy was shocked at how Georgie had managed to tie the Doctor’s shoe laces together
when he hadn’t moved from his seat.Georgie blamed Lennie and the Doctor and Mummy
were just lost for words. Georgie gave Lennie a lick of his lolly and they both
walked hand in hand out of the Doctor’s Surgery. When Georgie saw the Doctor
again he was quick to give Georgie two lolly pops, he wasn’t falling for that one
again.
Georgie didn’t really like birthday parties, he was very shy and didn’t really
like all the fuss. He kept losing Lennie and was really glad when it was all
over. Lennie on the other hand found plenty to get up to and Georgie would always
get blamed.
They played pass the parcel but this ended in tears as Lennie had eaten all the
sweets from under the layers of the parcel and there was no prize in the centre,
just a half eaten chocolate bar which Lennie didn’t like.
Then there was musical chairs. Firstly there were too many chairs as Lennie kept
replacing the ones which had been taken away and when this got boring as the
game was going on forever, Lennie would wait for the music to stop and some
unsuspecting child, who thought they had a chair didn’t as Lennie had moved it.
Next they played Blind Man’s Buff. When the Blind Man put on his Buff it had
two perfect little eye holes in it which Lennie had cut out of the blindfold.
So that cut that game short. Yes, Lennie was having a great time. Georgie on
the other hand was constantly being scolded by Mummyand wasn’t enjoying his
birthday party at all.
Georgie decided not to join in the statues game
as he knew Lennie would
have something up his sleeve Georgie thought, if he just sat there quietly
with Mummy and watched, she’d see it was not him doing all those naughty things.
As the music stopped and all the little statues were trying so very hard to
keep still, Lennie tickled one of them who ran off giggling.
Pulled another’s hair which made her lose her balance and knocked a few more down,
they looked like skittles Lennie thought. Mummy looked at Georgie and told
him to stop pulling faces and making the children laugh. There you go again,
Georgie just can’t win.
Georgie went off sulking and Lennie followed, there was no fun getting up to mischief
if Georgie wasn’t around,
he followed Georgie to cheer him up.
“Come on Georgie” Lennie said,“lets go and have some fun on our own”.
Georgie got into his little car, he was going to let Lennie drive but thought better
of it,they always ended up crashing or going through muddy puddles when Lennie drove,
even if they were nowhere near them, Lennie would find them, then Mummy would be
even more cross as Georgie was in his new Birthday clothes and Mummy wouldn’t
want Georgie to get dirty.Georgie tried really hard to please Mummy but things always
went so terribly wrong.
They were driving along giggling about the things Lennie had got up to at the birthday
party when all of a sudden a cat ran across Georgie’s path, Georgie swerved
and tried not to lose control of the little car, Lennie was still talking,
he just never shut up from opening his eyes in the morning to closing them at night.
Georgie lost control of the little car and ended up in the brook which runs at
the bottom of Georgie’s garden. Georgie and Lennie scrambled out of the brook
covered from head to toe in mud. They look at each other and all they can see
are the whites of their eyes. Lennie is uncontrollable, rolling on the
grass, Georgie tried to control himself but ends up with Lennie, now they’re
not only covered in mud but grass too, what a sight they look.
Mummy has heard all the commotion and is running down the garden and is not at
all amused at the sight before her eyes, her beautiful birthday boy looks like a
swamp monster.
That’s it Georgie, to your room, Mummy says, she has had enough, there’s only
so much she can take.
